Historical Information
19 Ponybrook Lane is one of two distinctive “Schoolhouse Townhomes” within the Ponybrook Development, sharing its historic origins with the neighboring and attached 17 Ponybrook Lane.
The home’s rich history dates back to the 1850s, when two small school houses were built on Concord Avenue and School Street in Lexington. In 1905, esteemed local architect Willard Brown – best known for designing Cary Memorial Library – relocated and combined the two structures at 376 Lincoln Street. This transformation created a residence that would become home of the renowned philanthropist Josiah Willard Hayden, who is still today the namesake of Lexington’s beloved recreation complex.
In 2013, Mark Barons of Barons Custom Homes purchased the estate and began a meticulous redevelopment to create Ponybrook Lane. Barons artfully shifted the Schoolhouse Residence on the site and transformed the structure into two distinct, attached single-family homes. The renovation honored and preserved original details while integrating modern amenities to meet today’s highest standards of lifestyle and aesthetic.
