The Boston public school system is made up of 119 public schools, and uses a home-based school choice system. In addition to traditional Early Education, K-8 and High School options, Boston Public Schools also offers a number of alternative school types including exam schools, charter schools, pilot schools, innovation schools, international baccalaureate program, dual language and receivership. Boston has offers many public transportation options through the Massachusetts Bay Transportation Authority (MBTA), including subway, bus and ferry service. There are 4 different rail lines connecting all areas of the city, including the oldest subway line in America: the Green line. For longer trips, there is Amtrak service out of South Station, Back Bay, and North Station. The MBTA also offers shuttle service to and from Logan Airport, located in East Boston.
